I’m BACK! It’s been a very long time since I’ve written anything – whether it be a blog, personal, or poems. I’ve had many ups and downs over the past year. I don’t want to make this post about all of that. Let’s just get back into it and over the course of a month or so, I’ll explain more. I’m just glad to be writing again.
Before I get into this, let’s first discuss the fact that I’m not a massive eater of fruit. My sense of smell and taste will vastly differ from others. This is just my experience I’ve had trying any of these for the first time. I highly recommend people that haven’t tried some more exotic fruits and vegetables to give it a go. You might find a new lifetime favourite!
Trying a mango for the first time was a big experience for me. I had one when I was in Sydney with Rachel and it was really amazing. The Australian mangoes taste vastly different from the ones we get here in Canada. This specific mango I believe is a Tommy Atkins mango from Brazil.
The smell is not overly powerful. It leaves a very light tropical plant smell. As soon as you cut into it, you’ll be hit with a light tropical fruit smell, kind of like a melon. There’s a faint smell of sweetness about it. I feel like I didn’t cut this very well..
The first bite of this one gives off a distinct flavour of cantaloupe or longon. (It might be because I just tried longon for the first time yesterday though..) The aftertaste is quite pleasant. It leaves a lightly sweet, citrus taste. On a scale of 1 to 10. I’d give it a 5/10. Not my favourite fruit, but definitely one I’d eat again, possibly in a fruit salad with other types of fruit. I’m sure it would complement another stronger fruit or even a green salad.
I’m not the biggest eater of fruits. When I grew up, I ate a lot of salty snacks and tons of different vegetables. This may be because I was allergic to strawberries growing up. I had a bad experience eating them and broke out into a massive rash all over my body. It wasn’t fun at all and definitely changed the types of food that I was given. My only fruit that I truly ate on a consistent basis were bananas. I could eat that every day if I had to.
My next fruit I want to try is passion fruit. I’ve seen it before and I think I’m ready to delve into something a little bit more on the unknown side.
This weekly indulgence is more on the side of trying many new things in a short period. I’ll try something a little more involved next week. I hope to do more writing in the future as well. This hiatus was unplanned, but definitely needed. I may get more into the reasons why in the future.
As always, enjoy your adventure!
